2022 Porsche 718 GT4 RS is a GT3 in a Cayman Body

The 2022 Porsche 718 GT4 RS was unveiled at the 2021 LA Auto Show in November. This new model is the most powerful Porsche 718 Cayman ever produced. The performance specs on this put it right behind its more powerful sibling – the GT3. This could be because the new GT4 RS has the same engine as a 911. The 2022 Porsche 718 GT4 RS features a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine with a 9,000 rpm redline. This engine produces 493-hp and 331 lb.-ft, which is 10-hp less than the current Porsche 911 GT3.

A seven-speed dual-clutch PDK is the only transmission option for the 2022 Porsche 718 GT4 RS. However, the automatic gear lever looks, intentionally, like a manual transmission to cater to driving enthusiasts. In addition, the RS spec features upgraded aerodynamics that includes: a swan-neck rear wing, a front splitter with integrated side fins, gills on the side fenders, and diffusers in both front and rear.

Built with track driving in mind, the GT4 RS is lighter than the standard model. Using carbon fiber, lightweight glass, and interior details like fabric interior door handles, the 2022 Porsche 718 GT4 RS weighs less than 3,230 lbs. The GT4 RS also sits 30 mm lower than the standard 718 Cayman with track-prepped dampers, springs, and anti-roll bars. In addition, there is an available Weissach Package, which saves more weight by adding carbon fiber parts, a titanium exhaust, and Race-Tex upholstery with optional magnesium wheels.

Porsche claims the RS package, with its tuned aero and weight reduction, generated 25 percent more downforce over the standard GT4. In addition, the 718 GT4 RS sprints from zero to 60 mph in 3.2-seconds and onward to a top speed of 196 mph. The sticker price for the 2022 Porsche 718 GT4 RS starts at $147k. However, expect to pay more for what will surely be a high-demand model. The Porsche 718 GT4 RS goes on sale in the US this summer.
