XPEL has installation centers all over the world catering to car enthusiasts' paint protection needs. Recently, an iconic supercar, a 1987 Ferrari F40 was set up with XPEL for some serious paint protection. Depending on whom you ask, the Ferrari F40 is considered the ultimate Ferrari of the last century. Highly collectible and desirable, the Ferrari F40 was brought to XPEL Letchworth by the good folks at AR Exclusive Car Care. The exterior of this classic Italian supercar is wrapped in ULTIMATE PLUS ™ Paint Protection film. The car's 30-year-old paint is now protected against rock chips, scratches, and road grime. XPEL PPF (Paint Protection Film) is proud to have the opportunity to help preserve an example of automotive history.

The story of the Ferrari F40 could fill a book and has. It is a car born from a race car that never had a chance to unleash its fury on the track. During the 1980s, Ferrari’s GTO program had developed the Ferrari 288 GTO Evoluzione to compete in FIA Group B rallying. However, before the car was completed FIA dissolved the Group B class. So, Ferrari was left hanging with five 288 GTO Evoluzione built and nowhere to race them.

After this, Ferrari decided to use its hardcore racecar and create a road-legal version to sell. The results of this idea gave birth to the Ferrari F40 we know today. The name “F40” is meant to represent the company’s 40th anniversary and pays tribute to Enzo Ferrari’s legacy with the company. This car was meant to be a compilation of the company’s technology, a state-of-the-art supercar for the street.

Debuting in 1987, the Ferrari F40 boasted a series of impressive numbers. Starting with its mid-mounted drivetrain. The F40 is powered by a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 producing 471-horsepower and 426 lb.-ft of torque. Unlike most luxury supercars, the F40 was not built for comfort – only speed. The interior is stripped down to the essentials like a five-speed manual transmission and multi-point seatbelts. The F40’s most impressive number is its top speed which Ferrari claimed to be 201 mph.

Ferrari originally planned on only building 400 examples of the F40. However, the car became an instant hit, and demand for the car became so vast that the total production grew to 1,311 units between 1987 to 1992. As of 2021, the current value of a restored or original Ferrari F40 is one-million-dollar collectible.

ULTIMATE PLUS ™ Paint Protection for Ferrari

Whether classic or modern, protecting a vehicle’s paint can be a matter of preserving an object of sentimental value. ULTIMATE PLUS ™ paint protection wrap is a transparent, durable film developed to protect surfaces against scratch marks, paint chips, and corrosion brought on by environmental contaminants. ULTIMATE PLUS PPF is virtually unnoticeable and leaves a high-gloss shine on wrapped surfaces. The paint protection film ‘self-healing’ properties work with direct sunlight to vanish away light paint damage like swirl marks and faint scratches.

We offer protection wraps in a partial front which covers the front bumper and partially covers the hood and side fenders. A full-front paint protection film wrap covers the entire hood, fenders, front bumper, side mirrors, and headlamps. However, one can always request to wrap the whole vehicle in XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS ™ Paint Protection Film. XPEL PPF can also be applied to interiors and trim pieces like carbon fiber wings and rear diffusers.
