American Red Cross Last October, Hurricane Sandy hit the Eastern United States with a ferocious rage. This category 3 storm that had winds exceeding 100 miles per hour, caused an estimated $75 billion dollars in damage, and 147 direct fatalities. The United States alone accounted for $71.4 billion and 72 of the direct fatalities. Immediately after the storm people rushed to the aid of the victims of Hurricane Sandy doing anything they could to provide shelter, clothing, food, and more. Dozens and dozens of organizations contributed to the relief efforts as well. In the media, Disney - the ABC Television Group raised $17 million, while NBC raised $23 million. Automotive companies reached a hand in to help with Toyota donating $1 million, Hyundai with $500,000 and Mazda with $100,000. Slowly but surely the rebuilding process had begun. F12 for charity The prancing horse is a world renowned emblem that to some symbolizes wealth and luxury, while to others it's a long racing pedigree of performance. Ferrari holds the title for the most Formula 1 Championships, and because of this, they held nothing back when it came time to design the successor to the 599. Named "Supercar of the Year 2012" by Top Gear Magazine, the F12 Berlinetta is the latest and greatest out of Maranello. The F12 comes packed with a 6.5L V12 that produces an astounding 731 horsepower, and 509 lb-ft, coupled with a seven speed twin-clutch transmission that will rocket the F12 to 60 in just 3 seconds flat. So naturally, when this car was released there was a big hype with everyone waiting in line to get one. The first one in North America however, comes with a story. Formula 1 in Texas Last November, an auction was held after the North American Formula 1 Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. On the auction block was the very first Ferrari F12 in North America. All proceeds were to benefit the American Red Cross. Ferrari started the bid at the MSRP price of $315,888. By the time the gavel fell, they had reached a final sale price of $1,125,000. A very generous man from New York was in town for the race, heard about the auction, and decided to show up. Little did he know, he would be paying around four times the asking price for the very first F12 Berlinetta in America, making a very generous donation to the victims of Hurricane Sandy. For his generosity, Ferrari threw in a day at Maranello, lunch with the CEO, and a Ferrari watch. Paint Protection Once the Ferrari got back to his home in New York the owner wanted to keep the car looking brand new, every day. So he called up Xtreme Vehicle Coatings and made an appointment to have XPEL Ultimate paint protection film installed. Protecting the high impact areas of the beautiful F12, a 24" hood, fender, bumper, mirror, and headlight kit was installed.
